A trip coming up in January
On 15 October 2024, I receive a call from the international travel manager of HUMANA people to people, a humanitarian organisation, confirming that I have been awarded the scholarship. Those who want to understand why I am doing this new project can go and read the first published article ‘where it all began’ where I tell why I want to join this new experience.
An international cooperation trip
This is an international cooperation trip - or international voluntary work - lasting 10 months, structured as follows:
3 months training on cooperation and development at the Lindersvold school in Denmark.
6 months volunteering in a HUMANA project in Africa or India.
1 month of reflection and awareness-raising in Europe.
The scholarship covers 80% of the expenses for the period in Denmark, including food, accommodation, course and teaching materials. The project in Africa/India, on the other hand, is fully funded by HUMANA People to People, including travel expenses to the project country, vaccinations and insurance. Personal expenses, of course, remain the responsibility of the participants.
What am I going to do?
This is the question I am most often asked by friends: ‘But what are you going to do?’. The answer is simple: whatever is needed to carry out the project.
There are four main areas of intervention:
AIDS, HIV, malaria and tuberculosis prevention
Education and training
Agriculture and food security
Child and community development
Towards a more specific choice
Considering my studies in food security and sustainability - those who want to know more about me can visit the ‘About Me’ section of the blog - it is likely that my choice will fall on area 3. However, the goal will be to contribute to all four development areas. The final decision will be made during the first 3 months of training in Denmark where we will be shown the active projects... I will keep you updated!
Preparations and enthusiasm
Super enthusiastic, I have already started thinking about a thousand things:
The list of preparations, the vaccinations to be done here in Italy and some ideas for projects I might work on once I'm in the field.
During the last meeting with the international project managers, I completed my application and clarified the last doubts. Now all that remains is to wait... The countdown has officially started!
I will tell you everything: from my experience at the school in Denmark to the project in the chosen country, be it Africa or India.
Stay tuned!
